Margaret Blaetz is an experienced medical technologist with 13-years of hospital experience, 8-years physician office laboratory (POL) management experience, 6-years laboratory sales and service experience and 2-years of research and development experience.
Margaret’s training experience began with mentoring new technicians and as adjunct faculty at Atlantic County Community College. During her tenure as sales and service manager, she trained physician office staff on the use of computer order entry procedures. She has trained physicians, mid-level providers, and medical assistants for use of EMR test orders and results review. This training was conducted in classroom settings as well as one-on-one.
As a POL laboratory manager, she worked closely with physicians regarding test selection and specimen collection techniques. She developed a curriculum for POL’s to understand CLIA compliance for waived testing along with the coordinating procedure manuals and log sheets to record Quality Control (QC) and patient test results. This training and compliance plan was given to more than 75 staff members in 28 practices over a 3-year period.
Margaret earned certification for CLIA Compliance in 2014 and retains this certification through annual continuing education. She maintains an open dialog with the NJ State Department of Health and CLIA surveyors to ensure information is up to date and accurate for all regulations.
In 2015, East Coast Clinical Consultants opened to use Margaret’s training and compliance program to assist POL’s outside of her employer’s organization. After obtaining certification as a Clinical Laboratory Consultant, CLC(AMT), Margaret further expanded her business speaking twice at national COLA CRI Symposiums, once for the Eastern Analytical Society (EAS), writing for COLA Lab Testing Matters – From the Bench, and for the American Academy of Family Practice.
She is skilled in information technology having customized and implemented a Laboratory Information System (LIS) in a hospital laboratory. She has worked with POL’s interfacing to reference laboratory computers while representing the reference laboratory and while working on the POL side. She has hands on experience interfacing to an LIS and to an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
Her passions include Community Theater and hound dog rescue groups; SOS Beagles NJ and Tri-State Basset Rescue. In her spare time, Margaret and her husband, Ed, enjoy camping and working as Highway Hero Rescue Transporters.
